Pōtaka Nautilus - Gallery Mitsuru, Osaka

Pōtaka Nautilus as immersive interactive exhibition was presented at the newly restored and opened heritage Gallery Mitsuru in Osaka, Japan during October 2024.

Arigatou gozaimasu Katsuhiko and Hana Matsumura, it was a wonderful experience to bring this project to Osaka, and celebrate your gallery opening. Doumo arigato Kay Watanabe for translation/comms support towards our exhibition and residency at Gallery Mitsuru. Ngā mihi nui Mahina and Lavinia Kingi-Kaui for your beautiful tautoko with this mahi coming to Japan. Ngā mihi nui taonga pūoro, cello, dance, weaving and digital creatives whose work shines in Pōtaka Nautilus (Ariana Tikao, Al Fraser, Paul Mitchell, Amit Noy, Christina Guieb, Airu Matsuda, Samara Reweti, Taane Mete, Kahu Collective, Gillian Karawe Whitehead, Jac Grenfell, Stuart Foster and GCA digital team with Daniel and Donnine). Visitors and audiences loved the live activations with taonga pūoro, VR, film and prints - and connected deeply to the taonga on display.

Ngā mihi nui Creative New Zealand for supporting this work touring to Japan. The installation at Gallery Mitsuru became a platform for cultural exchange, and for dialogue around the environmental issues we face as island nations.
